Writing a post

What a post can hold, how long it can be, and what every button in the composer does.

The composer is the box at the top of your home page, and the Post button opens the same thing from anywhere.

A post can be up to 10,000 characters. That is deliberately generous — a quick thought and a considered piece are different things, and Easybie would rather you wrote the second one here than somewhere else.

Mentions and hashtags Copy a link to this section

Type @ and a name to mention somebody. A list of suggestions appears as you type, and the people you already know come first. Mentioning somebody notifies them.

Type # and a word to make a hashtag. Every hashtag is a page of its own that anybody can open.

The buttons Copy a link to this section

  • Photo — up to four pictures per post. See Photos and alt text.
  • Poll — turns the post into a question with choices. See Polls.
  • Background — a coloured card behind short text. Available up to 280 characters; past that it is a wall of colour with an essay on it.
  • Sensitive — hides the post behind a cover the reader has to press through.
  • Paid — marks the post as paid promotion and asks for a short label, which is shown to every reader. Easybie does not check the claim; it makes room for you to make it.
  • Today — the post is deleted a day later. See Today posts.

The audience Copy a link to this section

The globe below the toolbar sets who can see the post. See Who can see your posts.

Threads and replies Copy a link to this section

A reply is a post like any other and can carry pictures, a poll and its own audience. Replies appear under the post they answer, oldest first, so a conversation reads in the order it happened.
