Polls

Asking a question with choices, and the three decisions attached to it.

Poll in the composer turns your post into a question. The text of the post is the question, so a poll cannot be posted without one — a set of unlabelled options is not a question.

  • Up to ten choices
  • Open for one hour to one week — an hour, six hours, a day, three days or a week
  • Pick more than one lets a voter choose several options instead of one
  • Show who voted publishes the names of the people who chose each option

Off by default, and worth thinking about before you turn it on. A poll where the answers are attached to names is a different question from an anonymous one, and people answer it differently — which is sometimes exactly what you want and sometimes the reason nobody answers.

Whichever you choose is shown on the poll before anybody votes, so nobody is surprised afterwards.

While a poll is open you can change your answer — choosing a different option replaces your vote rather than adding one, and in a multiple-choice poll pressing the same option again takes it back.

Once the poll closes the result stays on the post, votes are fixed, and it cannot be reopened.
