Drafts and scheduled posts
Where a post goes when you are not ready to publish it, and how to set a time.
Not everything is finished when you write it. The composer can keep a post for later, either without a date or with one.
Saving a draft Copy a link to this section
Write the post and choose to save it instead of publishing. Nothing is sent, nobody is notified, and it does not appear anywhere except in your own list.
A draft keeps its pictures, its poll, its audience setting and anything you attached. Opening it again puts you back where you were.
Setting a time Copy a link to this section
You can give a post a date, and optionally a time. Without a time it goes out at nine in the morning.
The date cannot be in the past. A post scheduled for a moment that has already gone would either publish immediately or never, and neither is what anybody means.

Both live in the same place: Not published yet, in your account menu — the one behind your picture at the bottom of the sidebar, or your picture in the corner on a phone.
Drafts and scheduled posts are listed together there, because the question you are asking is the same one: what have I written that has not gone out.
When a scheduled post appears Copy a link to this section
It becomes visible the moment its time passes. Nothing has to run for that to happen — the post is already stored, and it simply starts being included once its time is behind us. If the site were completely asleep at nine in the morning, your post would still be there at nine.
What does wait for the background is the notification to anybody you tagged in it. Those go out shortly after the post appears rather than at the same second.

Open it from that list and edit it, publish it early, or delete it. Nothing about a draft or a scheduled post is committed until it is out.
