Common questions
The things people ask most, with the shortest true answer to each.
I cannot message somebody Copy a link to this section
You can message people who follow you back — both of you have to follow the other. See Messages.
How do I get a badge? Copy a link to this section
Badges say what kind of account yours is, and none of them are for sale. See Badges and verification.
The text is too small Copy a link to this section
Settings → Appearance has a text size with a live preview, alongside the colour and the light. See Colour, light and text size.
Someone is posting something they should not Copy a link to this section
Use Report in the ⋯ menu on the post or the account. It goes to a person who reads it. See Reporting something.
Why did my post disappear? Copy a link to this section
If it was marked Today, it was deleted a day after you wrote it — that is what Today does. See Today posts.
Where did the post I saved go? Copy a link to this section
Saved, in the sidebar. See Replies, reposts and saving.
Why is my Following tab empty? Copy a link to this section
Because nobody you follow has posted. Following shows only those people, in order, and puts nothing else in the gap. For you is the tab for finding people worth following.
I want my data, or I want to leave Copy a link to this section
Settings → Account holds both, and neither needs anybody's permission. See Your data, and leaving.
The box stopped letting me type Copy a link to this section
It should not any more. Every box that holds more than a line now shows how many characters are left when you get near the end, and lets you go past it — the number turns red and counts below zero, and Save tells you how far over you are.
Nothing you typed or pasted is thrown away while you cut it down. If you paste a bio you wrote somewhere else and it is too long, all of it is still in the box.
The common limits: a post 10,000 characters, a bio 300, a group description 500, a private message 5,000, an article 200,000. Each page of this manual gives the ones for its own screen.
