Badges and verification

What each badge means, and why none of them can be bought.

A badge on Easybie says what kind of account something is. It is not a status symbol, it is not a subscription, and none of them are for sale.

There are seven:

  • Official Easybie account — Easybie itself
  • Verified person — a real person, and the name on the account is theirs
  • Verified creator — publishes original work here, and the account belongs to whoever makes it
  • Verified business — a registered business, and this account speaks for it
  • Verified organisation — a charity, association, school or similar body
  • Verified media — a publication or newsroom, or a journalist writing for one
  • Verified public institution — a government body, public agency or emergency service

Why it matters that they cannot be bought Copy a link to this section

A badge that can be bought means only that somebody paid. A reader who sees Verified business next to a name has learned that Easybie checked a real business is behind it — which is precisely what an impostor would want them to conclude, and precisely what makes a purchasable badge worse than no badge at all.

Asking for one Copy a link to this section

The verification policy lists each kind and exactly what to send for it. It is generally a link from somewhere you already control, pointing back to your account: your own site, your shop, a staff page, a masthead.

Each kind has an Ask for this badge button that opens the help desk with the request already written, so you do not have to remember what the policy asked for.

What a badge does not do Copy a link to this section

It does not change where your posts appear, who can see them, or how they are ranked. It is a label, and only a label.
